VALENTINE'S MACARONS

I've been wanting to do macarons for a while now. And, since my mom was here this was the perfect opportunity to use her knowledge for baking and do something a little more complex like the macaroons are. I had read that making them was a little tricky and they are indeed. The first time we tried making them everything was going great until they came out of the oven. We had read the recipe in Spanish and they mentioned that if we didn't have a silicon mat we could use "wax paper". Well, NO. We were supposed to use PARCHMENT paper. So, as you can imagine the paper never came off… So, last week we tried making them again. And, I was so excited because even though they are not the cutest macarons I've seen they came out really good to be the first time making them. (I used this recipe) And, since tomorrow is Valentine's Im wrapping them to give some to my coworkers and friends. 



For the left and right package I used washi tape that bought at Target. And, for the middle one I used magic tape that I painted with gold acrylic. 

VALENTINE'S CAKE POPS

Since Valentine's is coming up, my friend who has recently started a business making sweets offered to share a couple cute ideas for Valentine's gifts. She makes these -oh so delicious- cake pops and creates the cutest arrangements to present them like they deserve. Most of the elements she used to wrap the pop were found at Target. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARD

I came to this country 6 years ago. It feels like it was yesterday that I waited for the bus to go to school, thought. I originally wanted to take English classes here and then go back to Colombia to study Industrial Design. But, after doing some research here I found out about The Art Institute. They had this program and the idea of living here sounded great to me since I've always liked to be a little independent. Moving here was fun but sad at the same time because I was leaving behind my friends, family and all the people I love. Since then, it's been a little hard keeping in contact with them. And, understanding that those friends you had during childhood become adults and grow apart from you it's even harder. Yesterday, was one of my childhood friend's birthday. We've been distant for a while. She is in Florida on vacations now and has brought back memories of those times when we used to plan vacations together, dream about going shopping to Miami and many other silly things. I wish in life we could remember a little more those silly things that kept us together and forget about meaningless things that try to keep us apart from those who once meant so much to you. If I've learned something being far from my loved ones is that we are all different and that makes us special. I hope my friend had a very Happy Birthday and wish her the best.
