I've wanted to do a cover for my passport for a while now. I just can't find something that is simple but cute at the same time. And, I still have a lot of faux leather that I used here for my kitty's litter box..so I thought it would be a good option to use that fabric for the cover as well. You will probably see a lot of green leather in the future also because this fabric doesn't have an end.. This is what I used to make the cover:
-Faux leather square of about 1.5 ft x 1.5 ft
-Embroidery Thread
-Embroidery Needle
-2 Pieces of Card stock of 6" x 4" (I don't know if all the passports have the same size, so feel free to adjust the size if you need to)
-Scissors
(I ended up using acrylic paint also)
Cut a rectangle from the leather of 1.5"W x 6"H, and another one following the shape of picture above of: Bottom width 3", top width 1.75" and a height of 5.25", these two pieces will be the flaps inside the cover that hold your passport. Also, cut a rectangle of 10" x 7.5". This one will be the actual cover.
Spray some glue on the back of the card stock you are using, if you are using something with pattern like I did. Try to do this outside or your entire room will end up sticky, plus is not good for your health to spray this inside your house. (I know the picture looks like it is inside my house, and it is indeed but I was lazy and didn't want to move the tripod to the balcony). Oh, you need to know that this glue ruins your nail polish. I was upset about it the whole day :)
Now, glue the 2 covers next to each other on the leather leaving a space between them of a little less than .25". I left a book on top of this for about 7 minutes so the card stock sticked to the leather.
Trim the excess leather from the edges.
Now, that everything is glued and the edges look fine use the embroidery needle and thread and stitch the first two pieces that you cut at the beginning and place them ike the picture above. I made a knot at the end of the stitches and cut the thread excess.
After, I finished stitching I though it looked a little more simple that I wanted so I added a beautiful golden heart to the front cover.
