I want to let you know first that the pictures for this DIY are incomplete. The reason is.. because I started playing with the clay like a month ago but really didn't know what I wanted to do. Well, yes I wanted to do a necklace but yesterday I was thinking… I wear necklaces like every 2 months but I wear bracelets even to bed.. So, a bracelet sounds much better! I really like how the bracelet came out but will tell you some tips too that I noticed would work better while I was doing it. Anyway, the pictures missing for the first steps are really easy to explain so you will not be lost.
THIS IS WHAT I USED:
1. Sculpey Clay or Oven Bake Clay
2. Toothpicks
3. Nail Polish (3 different colors)
4. Old necklace. (it broke. It could have been fixed but since I am not in the necklace mood lately I decided to use it for the bracelet)
This is the step I am missing pictures for :) To make the beads I rolled the clay as a stick for the long one. Then, bent it like a banana and used the toothpicks to open the holes on each side. For the small ones, I made spheres and then pressed them to make them flat, used the toothpick also for the holes. Try to find a toothpick that has the same thickness of the closure beads you are using. When you have sculpted your beads put them in the oven at 275 degrees for 20 minutes. Here you can find better direction on the oven time depending on what size of beads you are making. I put the big and small beads at the same time and worked fine.
A month after.. (you can clearly do this right after you have let them cool down. This was just me taking for ever to finish my project because the original idea didn't inspire me) I used nail polish because I wanted it to be shiny. To be honest, I didn't know if the clay was going to melt or crack or anything but it worked out perfect. First, I applied 3 coats of purple. I let it dry just like with your nails. Then, I used tape to paint the gold stripe BUT I recommend maybe using just a piece of paper or not using a guide at all and trusting your pulse. Because, the gold nail polish was coming off a little with the tape. I let it dry and did the same with the blue stripe. Same thing happened again with the tape, so I had to go back and fix it. You can probably tell where I tried to fix it :) I did the same process for the small beads. Don't let too much nail polish go in the holes tho. Use the toothpicks to remove the nail polish that goes in there. Finally, I let everything dry very well and applied a nail polish top coat and used the link beads to hook them with the chain. I really like how it came out it looks like a piece of plastic. Try different shapes and colors! It's very fun and it looks more than what it is!
Me encanta! Voy s intentarlo¡¡¡
